Influence of Japanese Art

Discover how painters fused history, global events and fashion into their paintings. Japanese art portrays many characters from classical Japanese literature, Kabuki and Yokai. Japanese Mud Ball Art: Hikaru Dorodango

Become a mud-ball artist! During this hands-on class, students will create their own Japanese art balls. Hikaru dorodango is a Japanese art form that uses earth and water to create a shiny sphere resembling a billiard ball. Dorodango requires both patience and concentration to hand-shape each ball. The process is simple, but the result is beautiful art. No experience is necessary, and all materials will be provided. Instructor: Jay Sternickle

Making Theater Happen: Georgiana and Kitty: Christmas at Pemberley

A crucial part of a live performance happens beyond the public eye. From research to production, this course includes lectures and behind-the-scenes experiences with the Buffalo Theatre Ensemble (BTE) at their rehearsals moving toward performance. Students enhance their appreciation for theater by examining the many elements of play mounting and production. The fee includes a script and two tickets to the performance.

Tile mosaics are beautiful, artsy and festive. In this class you will learn to make your own using miniature ceramic, terra cotta and glass tiles.
