Students can choose to earn an Associate in Arts and follow the Russian Transfer Pathway or take Russian courses to meet general education requirements.
COD offers Russian courses in the traditional format where classes meet weekly and student have the opportunity to interact with an instructor and their peers. Students will take courses in both elementary and intermediate Russian.

Russian Transfer Pathway, A.A.
What is a Transfer Pathway?
A transfer pathway represents a typical course schedule/sequence for a student planning to complete the A.A. degree within two years, then transfer and major in a specific discipline. A transfer pathway is not institution-specific.
It is important to understand that the pathway provided in the adjacent tab is just one possible combination of classes by which to complete an A.A. and prepare for transfer in your chosen area of study. Other course combinations and sequences can work, too. It is strongly recommended that students work directly and frequently with a COD academic counselor/advisor, a COD faculty advisor, and academic counselors/advisors at potential transfer schools, to develop and execute a plan that works best for them.

Russia is one of the largest producers of natural resources including petroleum, diamonds, gold, silver, and platinum. Russia has the second largest oil reserves after Saudi Arabia and is the second largest steel producer. There is also an enormous market for U.S. good and services. With Russian skills, you can work with American businesses trying to get into the Russian markets. There are also many Russian entrepreneurs with international economics experience who are willing to work with non-Russian business partners. - Relations with Russia
The U.S. wants to keep relations good on a diplomatic scale with Russia. They will be more likely to hire graduates who can speak and understand the Russian languages. This will give you the edge in the job market. The US is also promoting an academic relationship with Russia, so there are many opportunities to study in Russia. - Get Ahead in Science and Technology
Are you planning to study or work in science or technology fields? Russian is an important language. Russian has the second highest number of articles published on science and technology, only behind English. Also, if you want to be an astronaut, NASA relies on the Russian space agency to transport them to the International Space Station. - Rich Cultural and Geographic History
Russian cultural heritage is known throughout the world, from writers such as Tolstoy, Solzhenitsyn and Dostoevsky, musicians such as Tchaikovsky, dancers such as Anna Pavlova, Rudolf Nureyev and Mikhail Baryshnikov. If you travel to Russia you can appreciate the natural beauty of Lake Baikal, the oldest and deepest lake on the planet and you can take a trip on the Trans-Siberian Railway! - Easier Language to Learn
The Cyrillic alphabet can be learned in one week. It’s easier to pronounce words in Russian than either Spanish or English because Russian is more phonetic. Russian also has a set of rules with few exceptions, so it’s easier to figure out what words mean. Studying Russian can also help with English grammar and writing skills. Students who study Russian have a high rate of acceptance in law school, business school, and medical school.
