Career Services for Faculty and Staff

The Career Services Center partners with faculty in multiple ways to support engagement and career conversations in the classroom and beyond.

If you would like to partner for a presentation, assignment, or discuss other career initiatives on campus, complete the Faculty Partnership Request Form and a team member will reach out within five business days. The department requests a minimum of four weeks for presentation requests and six weeks for a presentation with an assignment/activity request. All requests will be evaluated based on scheduling and availability.

Classroom Presentations and Assignments

Career Services is dedicated to coaching students and job seekers through the career development process along with job and internship search support. We welcome the opportunity to partner with faculty and programs to bring career-related topics to the classroom. Presentations can be personalized to meet the needs of the class. Common topics include (but are not limited to):

  • Career Services Overview
  • Electronic Resource Demonstrations: Career Coach, Chaps Get Hired, Big Interview, VMock SMART Resume, and/or Career Services
  • Blackboard Student Organization
  • Resume and Cover Letter
  • Elevator Pitch
  • Interview Preparation
  • Internship Search and Success
  • Professional Branding
  • Job Search
  • LinkedIn

In addition to presentations, Career Services can partner with you to develop and support career readiness assignments for students.

Internship Partnership

College of DuPage faculty members play a key role in the learning partnership created by academic internships. Qualified student-interns, who enroll for academic credit, work and learn under the direction of faculty internship advisors and site supervisors. This positive partnership leads to career and workforce development and academic learning. To learn more about academic internships and serving as an advisor, please visit our internship pages.

Faculty Development Sessions

Career Services partners with the EDC to offer career readiness sessions to help faculty and staff learn about resources available through the Career Services Center that can be incorporated into the classroom or simply shared with students.

  • Visit Cornerstone for dates.
  • Note: Faculty Development Sessions earn EDC Credits

We frequently provide demonstrations on VMock SMART Resume and Big Interview but also offer comprehensive training to better connect and engage careers in the classroom.

Connecting Careers and the Classroom

Studies have shown that the primary motivator for students is preparation for the workforce. Join COD’s Career Services Center for a discussion on how skills you are teaching relate to jobs our students want. After this session, you will be able to connect learning outcomes to career readiness based on competencies identified by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

Engaging Careers in the Classroom

Join COD’s Career Services Center for a high-impact discussion on how internships, service learning, and career conversations and assignments can significantly enhance student learning. After this session, you will be familiar with valuable resources and tools to integrate into your classroom, helping to align academic learning with career aspirations.
