Crime Prevention Tips to Keep You and Your Property Safe

  • Safety in numbers: If you have a concern for your personal safety while on campus, the Police Department will provide you with an escort.
  • Exercise situational awareness. Be aware of your surroundings. Where are you? Who is around you? Learn more about preparing yourself for potentially dangerous situations.
  • Don't leave personal belongings unattended.
  • Secure your vehicle: Always lock your vehicle on campus, record the make, model and serial number of all valuable items in your vehicle and keep your vehicle in good operating condition.

Sexual Assault Prevention

The Police Department is responsible for investigating sexual violence that occurs on the property of the main campus in Glen Ellyn. Any suspected incident should be reported immediately by calling (630) 942-2000. Incidents occurring outside of the Glen Ellyn campus should be reported to the local police immediately. The college is committed to eliminating all incidents of attempted or actual unwanted sexual activity.

Sexual assault is a serious concern that affects both women and men. Research shows that sexual violence affects one in six college women at least once during their college years. Approximately 84 percent of all sexual assaults are committed by someone the victim knows and 90 percent of date or acquaintance sexual violence involves alcohol. Although personal safety can never be guaranteed, there are steps you can take to reduce your risk of being a victim:

  1. Trust Your Instincts
If something feels off or uncomfortable, leave the situation or get help. Your intuition is a powerful early warning system.
  2. Set Clear Boundaries
Communicate your limits early and assertively. Saying "no" should always be respected—no explanation required.
  3. Avoid Isolation with People You Don’t Know
Well Stay in public or group settings until trust is well established. If you choose to go somewhere private, let someone you trust know your location.
  4. Watch Your Drink
Only accept drinks you’ve seen poured or opened, and never leave your drink unattended. Be cautious with shared containers.
  5. Have a Buddy System
Go out with friends and leave with them. Look out for each other, especially at parties, bars, and during travel.
  6. Know the Warning Signs
People who ignore boundaries, pressure for sex or intimacy, or make you feel guilty for saying "no" are showing red flags.
  7. Limit Sharing of Personal Info
Be cautious about posting your location or daily schedule online.
